ABOUT CORA PEARL

I am a lettering artist and teacher of lettering arts working in Portland, Oregon. Calligraphy, the art of beautiful writing, has been a life long passion for me--I started doing calligraphy when I was eleven years old. I work in a variety of styles including both traditional and modern.

I do commissions of custom made calligraphic artwork such as poetry, quotations, certificates, ketubot, personal gifts, wedding vows, family trees, anniversary gifts, letter to a loved one, or any other document with words that have significant meaning to the giver and receiver. I also do calligraphy for special events such as weddings, Bar/Bat Mitzvahs and other special occasions (invitations, envelopes, seating charts, table numbers, menus). Other services include: chalkboard lettering, large scale wall calligraphy, logos, flyers, certificates, literary tattoo design, and anything that needs beautiful hand made lettering on it!

I am passionate about teaching calligraphy and hand lettering classes and do so in a variety of styles and settings, including ongoing full credit art classes at Portland Community College all year round, independent workshops in person and online, and year long classes in Design for Lettering Art. I also teach workshops outside of Portland as a guest teacher and enjoy teaching at calligraphy conferences.

My handwriting and calligraphy have always been an expression of something deep inside me--the desire to make things beautiful through my connection to the written word. That is what I will bring to your project or as a teacher in any of my classes--an intention of creating beauty and the love of doing so.
