Simple Watercolor Flowers Workshop using the Wedge / Triangle Brush

Supply List:

  • Wedge /Triangle Brush – any size. The larger works well to learn. A medium size works well fo the leaves. It is important to get a brush that comes to a point. Beste is a good brand.

  • Watercolor paints – can be tubes, or pans of paint. You don’t need many colors, probably 5, if you have more, that’s fine too. I would recommend red, green, blue, and yellow as basic for this class. A black or brown would also be good if you have it.

  • *Watercolor paper – you can use 90#, 140# or 300# cold press paper, but as long as you use a heavy enough paper that is not going to buckle when you wet it you can decide on which weight of WC paper you can use. I would recommend a small pad of Watercolor paper…something like 8”x10”.

  • Mixing tray – you will definitely need some (space) for mixing. A couple Styrofoam plates, or clean large white meat tray, or a mixing palate with at least 6 sections, or a regular dinner plate or platter. .

  • Paper towel

  • Water container – preferably 2 if possible

  • Clean water

  • Pencil, Eraser, Ruler, typical supplies for any class

  • Micron Pens 001, 01, 02

Optional Supplies:

  • Paper*

  • Strathmore Watercolor Blank cards – there are typically many options to choose from. They come in white, bright white, and off white with a variety of deckle edges – or no deckle edge.  A good size is the 4” x 6”. They come with their coordinating envelope. They typically come in packages of 10. I’ve found the best place to purchase these is online at Cheap Joe’s, or Jerry’s Artarama. Michaels and Hobby Lobby typically carry them as well. They have a rough texture and take watercolor painting beautifully. They are smaller and easier to manage while you are experimenting. And if you “make a mistake”, you will be able to creatively find a solution.

  • Art Journal: Anytime you’re learning a new skill, I’ve found it’s a good thing to have a journal. It’s just a good idea to keep your notes and ideas in one place if possible, so, if you want to forego the purchase of WC paper and just work in a journal for this class, that’s fine. Just be sure the journal’s paper can take watercolor paint.
